The Ladies team used Jose Morhinio’s Squad Rotation System to great effect to win their eighth GP race of the season to achieve a maximum score of 800 points. With Juliet and Kensa resting up, the Carn girls put out a winning team of Paula, Donna, Janet and Ceri.
As this was only the second running of this race a lot of runners were wanting to know what the route was like. The main interest centred on a hill at around the 4 mile mark. Depending on who you spoke to it ranged from a short steep climb to a monster of biblical proportions. Most runners will probably believe the latter description and if it doesn’t turn out that bad then you’re on a winner.
The sun threatened to add to the misery but plenty of shade on the course made sure this didn’t have any adverse effects on times.
Another good Carn turn out. Maybe everyone was trying to get in their 8th GP race now rather than have to face the rumoured horrors that the new Truro Half has in store!

Hodgey (pictured above) was again our first runner home in a tad over 43 minutes. The fact that this sort of time only got him 3rd Vet45 shows the high quality of GP races these days. Steve Wherry was flying once again and held off Glyn Davis to be our second runner over the line. Phil Bolt was next having another excellent run and getting quicker race after race.
A group of four Carnies, Pete Kearney, Rory, Les and Chris Harper had been together from the start. At the foot of the climb however this was all to change. First off the back was Pete and soon Rory was reduced to a walk. Les and Chris chugged uphill together before gravity got the better of Les halfway up. Once at the top it was a flat but long 2 miles back to the finish, but the hill had dictated the finishing order of these four.
At this point we must show that we are totally un-biased with the p**-taking that gets dished out on this site. Although Chris does some of the race reports it must be pointed out that he is not immune. It was noticed at the finish that he had used a trail of gob oozing from his mouth to try and knobble the other three behind him. Check out Les’ photo (below), you can clearly see that he’s almost slipping over on that trail of bile left in Chris’ wake. Not nice Chris, but hey there’s nothing against it in the GP rulebook!

Pete ‘The Race’ Drew added another to his tally and this was his third in a week! Roy was next adding yet another great score to his GP total and collecting an age group prize. Steve Marks and Dave Scott finished holding hands (well almost) perhaps chatting about next Sunday’s Bristol Half.

Men’s captain, Dennis was next up the finish straight looking cool in his sunglasses and cap! Phil Bowles made another welcome appearance looking as cool as his club captain.
In the Ladies race, Paula made a speedy start and Donna had to shake off the effects of too many birthday red wines in a bid to catch her up. With Jo Friday and Steph Martin in 1st and 2nd places it was a race for 3rd between our girls. However, for anyone who’s ever tried to pass Paula in a race, it ain’t happening! Well, unless your name is Mike Tyson, Lennox Lewis, Ricky Hatton etc. Donna lost the bout on a points decision!

Donna picked up an age category prize as did Janet who was next home to win the FV45 trophy. Ceri followed up her great run last weekend with another strong run to ensure the girl’s team were victorious yet again.
Helen Smith (pictured below), managed to get to the start in good time thanks to hubby, John! Having time to spare before the gun went must have done the trick as she delivered another great run.

Wendy Marks was next in having lugged Motorhead’s sound system around on her arm for 7 miles!
Alison rounded up the 21 Carn Runner finishers despite nearly dislocating her neck by being too greedy and nicking husband Steve’s pillows the night before. Do all women do that? No sympathy here, young lady!!!!
Well Done all you Yellow and Blues and all supporters.
