| By now you've pretty much realised that some of the most popular races get sold out well in advance. Well, if you are thinking about tackling a good Half Marathon race then make sure you don't miss out.
On March 2nd there's the Bideford Half which has got PB written all over it! I've done it about 8 times so can confirm that it is fast! If you finished the Blaythorne 10, then you'll finish this no problem. Three extra miles? They are all flat! The entry limit's been raised to 1000 and you should be able to enter on the day. Take the chance? Your call.
The Great West Run is on 4th May. Pre-entry is a must. Great support etc through the centre of Exeter on the two lap course. However, be warned. PB potential is probably zero unless it's your first half! A couple of long drags uphill and as it's two laps you get a double helping. Enter Online on the GWR website.
The Plymouth Half Marathon is another one that you must enter early. By that i mean NOW. So click onto the race's own website and get sorted now if you want to do this one. Again, not flat but the crowds get you round and a great atmosphere.
September 14th sees the Bristol Half Marathon. PB course. Entries open in February on the race's website. Check it out now and get ready to fire your entry off as the 15,000 limit is reached within days of entries opening! If you are a speed merchant beware as it's a small pond down here in Kernow and a good time up in Bristol doesn't exactly mean a good finsh position!
All the above are good races to attempt as your first half marathon.
Obviously, there's plenty of other Half Marathons around with varying severity (most severe seem to be in the South West i.e Saltash, Launceston, Truro...) and often entries being available on race day probably mean the course is a 'mother'!!!!
Get those entries in the post and Good Luck!
