| Denise continued her schedule towards the Ironman Triathlon at Sherborne this summer with an excellent performance over half the distance (middle distance) at Marazion yesterday.
Starting at 0720, the first disipline was a 1900 metre sea swim which Denise completed in 40 minutes. The next stage was the bike course that consisted of two laps out towards Lands End and Pendeen, a total distance of 54 miles. The light winds and sunny skies with the occasional clouds were a change from the horrendous weather of two years ago and this time Denise powered around the course, no doubt drawing on her 100 mile training ride around Dartmoor the previous weekend.
With the bike racked back in transition at Marazion it was off on the final leg, the 13 mile run. This was a 3 lap route along the seafront to Penzance and back. An unlikely source of support greeted Denise as she ran close to the railway line. Looking around to see who was cheering, she finally spotted Les Smitham hanging out of his signal box. With 3 laps to do, she would enjoy his support another couple of times before heading back to Marazion and the finish.
Her time was just over 6 hours and a PB for the course.
The race was expertly organised by the Hayle Tri club and the presentation was soon taking place. Denise went one better than in 2006 and this time won her age group.
Well Done, Denise. Good Luck for Sherborne.
