| The last couple of years has seen the Carnies travelling to Budleigh Salterton on August Bank Holiday for the excellent Jurassic Coast 10K multi-terrain run. This year the run was cancelled because some 'Jobs-worth' from the permit authority had a few issues with last years race. Something along the lines that runners weren't told to check they had tied their shoe laces correctly before the start and that the fields were too grassy and the coast path too bumpy....!!! You get my drift!! Heaven help us, i nearly forgot to put one foot in front of the other at Indian Queens as Kev Burnett never mentioned it during his race brief. Good job i remembered and never fell over at the start!!
Anyhow, i've shot off course a bit. With the Jurassic cancelled to avert mass casualties, five Carnies went searching for a replacement and ended up in Torbay for the Regatta 10K.
A few of us had done this a few years back and i seem to remember running through Torquay on a August Bank Holiday was like running down Union Street on a Saturday night with Argyle having won the World Cup and a million stag and hen parties in progress with all the pubs giving away free booze. It was carnage. We had to run faster to avoid being mugged, snogged by mooses and spewed over by Biffa Bacon!!
The Permit guy would have had a field day!!!
Needless to say the five Carnies this year were probably doing it for the first time.
Paul Sawford was first home in a blinding 38:38!!! Ceri and Richard in the Love Bus and Carole and Barry also made the trip.
They are the 5 that appear on the results (see Race Results section) and will hopefully send us a more detailed race report and letting us know of any Carnie DNF's that may not have made the results due to being waylaid by a few drunken Hoppers in Kiss Me Quick hats.
More reports to follow..........
