As the saying goes,"while the cat's away, the mice do play" and that's exactly what a select band of 4 Carnies did at the Probus 10K at the weekend. With a lot of the high flyers not in action, it was left for this group to bring home the silverware which is exactly what they did.
A pleasantly warm autumn morning saw just over 100 competitors set off on an undulating course around the villages of Probus, Grampound Road and Ladock. The first half mile was all downhill, a pleasant start until the realisation that this was also going to be run in reverse as the final half mile. The race then wound through the narrow lanes with no major climbs but lots of undulations. This gave it the feel of a testing course probably slightly tougher than St Levan, at least that 's my excuse for clocking a time slightly slower than at the West Cornwall race. This was good enough for second in the male vet 45-49 category and a first piece of silverware. I was followed home by Janet who claimed 3rd place for the ladies and 1st in the female vet 45-49 category. Dennis was next up coming in second in the male vet 60-65 group closely followed by Martin Symons.
So overall a very successful event for the club.
I won't be around for a while now as a summer of road running beckons from New Zealand
(interspersed with some work!) but good luck for the rest of the season and, hopefully see you all in April 09.
