Redruth 1^st XI v Launceston 1^st XI – Saturday 2^nd June 2007

Launceston won the toss and put Redruth in the field on this overcast, humid afternoon at Trewirgie.

Opening bowlers Martin Strick (cemetery end) and Ben Stevens (town end) contained Launceston to 22 for 0 off the first the first 9 overs, however Launceston soon started attacking the bowlers as the overs progressed, with them finding only Phil Bostocks' left arm spin more difficult to get hold of.  Redruth were spirited in the field with Adam Strick, Steve Kevern and Paul Riley taking a good catch each and Dave Simpson running out opener James McCallum (64) off his own bowling.

Launceston finished with 229 for 6 off 48 overs.

In reply, Redruth opened with Steve Kevern and Pete Thomas who got off to a cautious start than Launceston did, on a well-used pitch, which was playing ever more erratically.  Needing a run rate of almost 5 runs per over, the task facing Redruth was a big one and at 29 runs, Redruth suffered its first loss at the crease as Paul Stanbury caught Pete Thomas.  As the innings progressed, the next 5 wickets fell at steady intervals and by around the 30^th over, Redruth were further disadvantaged as the visibility decreased as mist rolled in from the North coast.  With Redruth at 70 for 4 off 31, it became clear that  ‘damage limitation’ was the way forward as Redruth were not in a position to reach 230 off the remaining overs and it therefore it was necessary to limit the loss of more wickets.  Unfortunately a further 2 wickets were lost before Redruth reached a total of 125 for 6 off 48.
