Cornish athlete Steven Green is on the comeback trail in a big way, after clocking a massive personal best of 46.69 seconds over 400 metres in Birmingham last weekend in the Norwich Union Grand Prix Indoor Meeting.
The former Cornwall Athletic Club international 400 metre hurdler was well inside the qualifying standard (47.00 seconds) for the European Indoor Championships next month and will be hoping to make the UK team in both the individual 400 metres and the 4x400 metre relay when the team is announced this weekend. An additional incentive for Steven would be an appearance in front of his home crowd, as this year the European Indoors will be held in Birmingaham.
Steven’s dad, Andy speaking from his home in Helston said,”This is all a bit of an unexpected bonus really, as his main focus is still the 400 metres hurdles in the summer”.
Steven, who now does his club running for Newham and Essex Beagles, is certainly enjoying a rich vein of form at the moment, having finished second in the 400 metres (47.03) in the UK Indoor Championships in Sheffield one week previously.
He obviously seems to be benefitting from the coaching of Malcolm Arnold, who many will remember as Colin Jackson’s coach, during his time at Bath University, where he is studying for a PHD in mathematics.
